Complaints
I am to provide a respectful, ethical, and professional service. If something about our work concerns you, I encourage you to raise it with me so that we can try to resolve it.
1. Raise your complaint with me
Please contact me directly, ideally in writing, explaining what has concerned you and what outcome you are hoping for. I will listen carefully, consider the issues fairly, and respond as promptly as I can. Where appropriate, I will discuss the concern with you and try to agree a way forward.
2. Independent mediation
If we are unable to resolve the concern directly, we can consider referring it to an independent third party mediator, provided we both agree to this approach. The mediator's role is to help us explore the issues and see whether a mutually acceptable resolution can be reached. Mediation does not prevent you from using the BACP complaints process.Â
3. Contact BACPÂ
If the matter remains unresolved, you may contact the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) to ask about making a formal complaint under its Professional Conduct Procedure. BACP will assess whether the concern falls within its remit and explain the next steps. Information about how to complain is available at: https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-us/protecting-the-public/professional-conduct/how-to-complain-about-a-bacp-member/
Confidentiality
Â
I will handle complaints sensitively and share relevant information only where necessary to consider or resolve the complaint, or where otherwise required or permitted by law. Any mediation will be subject to appropriate confidentiality arrangements.
